Red, Gold and Green of the Khasi
Red, Gold and Green of the Khasi, is the result of an international collaborative initiative, between researchers, artists, representatives of indigenous Khasi communities in Uganda and librarians and museum experts from the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam. During a participatory phased process of almost a year, we produced installations, soundscapes, a rap video, short films, performances as well as research articles. Each explored if and how a collaborative production of art installations with representatives of indigenous groups can provide alternatives to “traditional” cultural stereotypes of indigenous peoples and their relationship to “development” initiatives. The installation in Shillong, Meghalaya, India is made by adults and children from the Khasi community together with two artists Arno Peeters and Iris Honderdos. The installation remains in the Khasi community and is displayed in the Don Bosco Museum for indigenous cultures, Shillong.
